Aquantia, the leading developer of high-speed Ethernet connectivity solutions for cloud computing and large-scale data center deployments, announced today that it has completed $35 million in Series F funding, with RUSNANO, the new investor leading the round, joined by current investors. RUSNANO will invest $25 million, while current and new investors will contribute $10 million to the financing round.
Aquantia successfully launched its industry-leading 40nm 10GBASE-T PHY chipset in 2011 as a critical component of emerging LAN-on-Motherboard (LOM) platforms for new data center servers and switches. With Intel launching its Romley generation LOM server platforms in March 2012, the 10GBASE-T interconnect market is now experiencing an explosive uptick. According to Crehan Research, shipments of 10GBASE-T to data center switching and servers will see more than a seven-fold increase from 2011 to 2012, reaching a total of approximately six. 5 million ports in 2013 and nearly 20 million ports in the following year.
Aquantia will set up a new design center in Russia. The Russian R&D center will support the Silicon Valley R&D Group in the field of chip design and software development as well as product testing.
“Aquantia is the only 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GE) silicone provider to meet our investment criteria for high-speed data center interconnected space,” said RUSNANO Managing Director Sergey Polikarpov. “We believe that big data and global data center traffic will see a huge swell over the next few years, and Aquantia’s technology is essential to improve server performance while achieving higher cost efficiencies. This is a premium opportunity for us to participate in the growth of the market and its rewards “That’s right.
“NEA is excited to continue supporting Aquantia as the company expands its operations to meet the ever-increasing demand for its superior technology,” said NEA partner Rohini Chakravarthy. “We see the build-up of network capacity expected to support 15 billion connected devices by 2015. This is a tremendous opportunity for Aquantia “That’s right.
“This past year has been tremendously rewarding, as it was the culmination of hard work, innovation and strong partnership in 10GE and LOM space,” said Faraj Aalaei, President and CEO of Aquantia. “We are truly ecstatic about the launch of Intel’s Romley Platform and what it means as a watershed event for the near-term ubiquity of 10GBASE-T in the data center as well as future opportunities across Enterprise Space. That’s what we’ve been working towards, and in this and all previous rounds, our funding partners have positioned us to have a tremendous success in delivering. “That’s right.
