India has become world’s second largest manufacturer of PPE

India has emerged as the world’s second-largest manufacturer of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in just two months amid concerns to provide quality Personal Protective Equipment to Corona Warriors. India now produces 450,000 PPE everyday and over 600 companies in the country have obtained certificates to them.

Companies like Alok Industries, JCT Phagwara, Gokaldas Exports, and Aditya Birla are some of the domestic key players in manufacturing PPE Kits. These have stringent technical requirements as prescribed by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare meant for a higher level of protection of health professionals. The set includes face masks, gowns, gloves, goggles, headgear, etc. which provides a complete coverall to the person’s body and prevents infections despite proximity with the diseased.

With all the domestic key players setting up production in Bengaluru, the city is manufacturing 50% of PPEs in India. It is said that the textiles committee has recently launched the Synthetic Blood Penetration Testing Equipment intending to check the quality of PPEs. Ministry of Textiles, in a tweet, mentioned that we are looking for the opportunity to become an exporter of PPEs to western nations.

According to the Chairman, Empowered Group, “around 3 Million units PPE are sent to states to increase testing productivity. PPEs are vital for any country.”

Keeping in line with Prime Minister Modi’s recent call for an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ or Self-sufficient India, the country can even export PPE to Europe, Africa, and South America while preparing itself for the second pandemic in the future.
