The bengaluru-based agri-tech startup, Utkal Tubers (Utkal), on Thursday said it has raised key financing of USD 1.44 million from worldwide potato rearing and seed potato creation firm IPM Potato Group Limited (IPM). IPM is an auxiliary of Donegal Investment Group has headquarter in Dublin, Ireland.
Utkal Tubers was established in 2017, CapAleph Indian Millennium SME Fund and Zephyr Peacock India Fund had invested USD 4.6 Million funding in Utkal in May 2017. Utkal is a lab-to-land development organization occupied with potato research, development and advertising.
Utkal is attempting to improve access to great quality seed potatoes at a moderate cost through assortment development and huge interest in high evaluation seed creation with current aeroponic offices . Aeroponics is the effective way of cultivating plants in an air or fog condition without using of soil.
Abhijeet Kudva, Managing Director, Zephyr Peacock India, stated, “India is positioned second in potato creation. Around 90 percent of the potatoes are developed in only four states – Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar and Punjab. Ranchers from different states normally need to pay 30-40 percent premium to get to potato seeds in time. Utkal is tending to this need through research and growing new advancements.” The presentation of new assortments from IPM will offer ranchers upgrades in yields, malady opposition and by and large gainfulness.
The company claims that the introduction of new varieties from IPM will offer farmers improvements in productivity , disease resistance and overall profitability.
