Beam Technologies—a data-driven oral health startup and creator of the first connected toothbrush—announced today that it received $5 million in Series A funding from Drive Capital.
Beam’s technology collects data on the day-to-day hygiene of a user using its Bluetooth-enabled Beam Brush and displays it on the connected smartphone app. The sensor-suited brush measures how often and how long a person is brushing, communicating with the mobile app to start a two-minute timer when the brushing starts. During this timeframe users can listen to music or watch video clips from other apps while browsing.
‘We worked hard to transform the mundane two-minute people who spent brushing their teeth to create a highly engaging user experience—so much so that the Beam Brush sold out on our first run,’ said Beam Technologies’ founder and CEO, Alex Frommeyer.
The company’s Series A funding will be used to accelerate product development and expand the team. Beam Technologies is moving its headquarters to Columbus, Ohio, while maintaining an office in Louisville, Kentucky.
